About Traditional Care Compendium
Exploring global wisdom traditions in natural health and holistic wellness through educational resources and cultural learning
The information on this site is for educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making health decisions.
Our Story and Cultural Roots
Traditional Care Compendium began with a simple mission: to document and share the rich heritage of natural health practices from cultures around the world. We recognised that valuable knowledge has been preserved for generations through oral traditions, written texts, and community practices—yet much of it remains inaccessible to those seeking to understand these approaches.
Our platform serves as a bridge between ancestral wisdom and contemporary learners. We are committed to presenting these traditions with respect, accuracy, and cultural sensitivity. Every article, guide, and resource on our site is carefully researched and crafted to honour the origins of these practices whilst making them understandable in today's context.
Based in Glasgow, United Kingdom, we work with contributors, educators, and cultural practitioners to ensure our content reflects genuine understanding rather than commercialised oversimplification. This is educational work—not sales, not quick fixes, but real learning.
Our Mission
To create an accessible, authentic educational platform that explores natural health traditions from cultures worldwide. We empower people to understand holistic wellness practices, appreciate cultural heritage, and make informed decisions about their own wellbeing—grounded in respect, evidence-based research, and genuine cultural knowledge.
Learning. Respecting. Sharing. Discovering.

Elena brings lived experience and formal study of Ayurvedic principles spanning fifteen years. Based in Glasgow, she contributes guides on seasonal wellness practices and plant-based approaches from South Asian traditions. Her role includes reviewing content for cultural authenticity and ensuring traditional concepts are explained in ways that resonate with Western audiences without losing their essence.
Amara Okafor
African and Indigenous Traditions Editor
Amara Okafor, our editor for African traditions, draws on her doctoral research in ethnomedicine to work with community elders. She ensures our platform amplifies authentic voices rather than flattening diverse cultures into one narrative. Her editorial oversight guarantees that traditional knowledge is presented with agency and respect to its original communities.
Our Values
Authenticity
We research deeply and work with knowledge keepers to ensure every tradition is presented truthfully, not simplified or commercialised.
Cultural Respect
We honour the origins of these traditions and acknowledge the communities they come from, avoiding appropriation or distortion.
Clarity
We make complex cultural and wellness concepts accessible without losing their depth—education, not oversimplification.
Integrity
We operate as educators, not sellers. No commercial bias, no health claims, only honest information and respectful learning.
What Practitioners and Learners Say
"As someone teaching about herbalism, I've struggled to find resources that respect both the science and the cultural roots of traditional plant knowledge. Traditional Care Compendium has become my trusted reference. The articles are deeply researched, beautifully written, and they genuinely honour the traditions they describe. My students use these guides too, and they appreciate learning about the real history behind these practices."
Sarah Mitchell
Clinical Herbalist and Educator, Edinburgh
"I was looking for credible information about Ayurvedic wellness without all the commercialised nonsense you find online. This platform is refreshingly different. The content is educational, not trying to sell me anything. I've learned more about genuine principles in a few weeks than from years of scattered internet searching. The team clearly cares about accuracy and respect."
David Patel
Wellness Researcher, Manchester
"Our platform has become a helpful resource for students researching ethnobotany and cultural health systems. The rigour is evident—nothing here is vague or unsubstantiated. It's wonderful to see a platform that combines accessibility with genuine scholarship. The guides are being used in our courses now."

University Lecturer, Department of Anthropology, Glasgow
Why This Matters
Natural health traditions from cultures worldwide represent thousands of years of accumulated observation, experimentation, and refinement. Yet in our modern era, this knowledge is often either invisible, exploited, or flattened into commercialised "wellness trends." We believe these traditions deserve better.
Our platform exists to restore dignity to this knowledge by presenting it authentically, ethically, and educationally. We're not here to sell products or promise quick fixes. We're here to help you understand, appreciate, and learn from the real wisdom that these traditions offer.
Whether you're a practitioner, student, educator, or simply curious about how different cultures approach holistic wellbeing, you'll find rigorous, respectful, and accessible content here.
